Worked example

A $50 plan to buy real backlinks for a family blog

This is a worked example about an imagined blog. The numbers are made up to show the method; your prices, topics and results will differ.

Please read this first

Everything below is a hypothetical. The blog 'Slow Sundays' does not exist, the prices are round figures chosen for easy reading, and we make no claim about what it would earn or rank. The point is the method.

Slow Sundays, before and after the plan

Invented blog, invented numbers. Nothing here is a result.

Why the plan is built the way it is

A small budget needs a narrow aim. Slow Sundays has one post that already ranks on page three of Google for a meal-prep query, so that post gets all of the links.

Six placements at an average of about $8 come to roughly $50. In the marketplace that sort of price usually means a modest Domain Rating and a few hundred monthly visits, so the owner filters for niche and language first and for price last, and reads each row's referring domains before adding it.

Orders go out in three small batches, one every ten days or so. That keeps the pattern calm. It also leaves room to stop if the first two links look disappointing once they are live, which is why the basket is reviewed, not rushed. The first-order walkthrough shows each screen.

What we would do with the next $50

Resist the urge to repeat. If the first six links moved nothing in eight weeks, the next $50 should not go to more links on the same post. Look at the post instead.

Does the opening paragraph answer the question? Is there a picture a tired parent can scan at a glance? Google changed what ranks for many lifestyle queries in the March 2024 core update, so check the results page too. Look, then decide.

Often the better step is free. Refresh the text, add two internal links from older posts, and ask a friendly blogger whether she might mention you. Our notes on anchor words help when you do buy again.

If the post did climb, say from position 19 to position 11, then another small batch is reasonable. Keep it just as quiet.

The same plan, as a list you can copy

  • Choose one post that is already close to page one, using Search Console's performance report.
  • Write down the query and today's average position.
  • Filter donors for your language and a nearby niche such as home, health or education.
  • Skip any row whose traffic is near zero, however cheap it is.
  • Order two links, wait ten days, order two more, wait again, then order the last two.
  • Check your ordered links for status, and open each live page yourself.
  • Look at Search Console on day 28 and day 56, not daily.
